Attempts to define gender identity often fall short of grasping the complex nature of terms, experiences, and self-discovery. We look at three members of the trans community - Rob, Charlene and Rebecca - all willing to share their intimate journeys in order to bring all of us together with greater understanding and compassion.

Originally from Berlin, juggling performer Michael "Hilby" Hilbig currently resides in Ithaca, New York. He entertains crowds at various events with circus and variety skills.
Chef Linda "Sparky" Mortimer is a fixture in the Hawley Green neighborhood of Syracuse, New York. She has passionately pursued the opening of a restaurant called SparkyTown with hopes that the space will support a diverse community in a transitional area.
Nurse practitioner Desta Anthony owns and operates a medical house call practice in Syracuse, New York.
Aurelle Walton, 94, and Fran Scollan, 93, are sisters who reside in a senior living residence called the Athenaeum of Skaneateles. They entered into this stage of their twilight years back in June of 2009. Their lives now center around routine and structure, with the guiding hands of those at the facility at their sides. Memory is slipping away as they try to reflect on their lives and the lives of their 20 children between them. Despite their different personalities, they have come together to sleep in one room, leaning on the support of care takers.
